I feel like this post has been a long time coming. I’ve wanted to start a blog for a while now but I finally got inspired to jump in and do it. I’m really excited to share my experiences in PA school and life in general with you! Here are 20 questions to help you get to know me a little better.
- What is your favorite drink?
COFFEE. I live for coffee. Don’t even try to talk to me unless I’m well caffeinated. My husband and friends can vouch for this. My favorite is a venti iced caramel macchiato with non-fat milk from Starbucks. But I’m really trying to make my own coffee at home lately to save money. Five dollars a pop ain’t cheap.
Now if were talking drank-dranks, I’m a total wino. Cabernet sauvignon is my favorite, but any red will do. I also like the occasional beer. My favorite seasonal one is out right now, Abita Strawberry
- What is your dream job?
I worked in the emergency department before PA school, and I miss it so much. I like that there is always something going on and it keeps you busy. I would love to work in the ER as a PA, and at this time I think that is probably where I will end up (but who knows, clinical rotations could change everything!). With that being said, I think Erin Jensen, PA at The White Coat Treatment has the ultimate dream job. She works with Dr. Sandra Lee (aka Dr. Pimple Popper). I think there are two kinds of people in this world: those who love to pop pimples, and those who think its gross. I am the former. A job where I can spend all day squeezing out the gunk from Dilated pores of Winer and epidermoid cysts?! SIGN ME UP.
- Who are your favorite YouTubers?
Dr. pimple popper as I have mentioned. I could watch that for hours. As for beauty channels, Jaclyn Hill and Kathleen Lights are my favorite. They are such beautiful women and seem really down to earth. Jaclyn and Kathleen, if you are reading this: call me, let’s be friends! (<– that’s not weird at all.)
- Apple or Android?
Pshhhh APPLE all the way. This is an almost daily debate in my household. Husband loves android, I love Apple.
- What is your biggest regret in life?
One of the most important life lessons I have learned in the past 10 years was not to let past regrets have a negative impact on my current self. I used to be really hard on myself for not finishing college in the typical four year allotted time (it took me 7) because I feel like I wasted so much of my life. I don’t let that get me down anymore, though. Sometimes shit happens, and you have to learn to adapt and move on if you want to survive. The mistakes you have made brought you to where you are now.
- How tall are you?
I’m a very average 5’5”.
- What is your middle name?
For 27 years my middle name was Elizabeth. When I got married I dropped my middle name and changed it to my maiden name. I thought this was a common practice until I moved and realized it’s a very Southern thing. Oh, The South, how I miss you and your unrelenting traditions.
Side note: Although I live in Florida now and geographically that is still the South, I have found that the further south you go in Florida, the less “Southern” you get in mindset and ideals. Confusing? I know.
- Why did you start a blog?
I have been wanting to start a blog for a long time now, but just recently got inspired to finally get down to it. I’m in the transition from didactic year in PA school to clinical rotations and I thought this would be a good place to start discussing my experiences. I also think that being a physician assistant is such an amazing up and coming field and (hopefully) people want to know more about it.
- What is your favorite way to spend your free time when you are alone?
I have a secret: I’m kind of lazy. If I have a day off with nothing to do (aka nothing to study for), then I’ll most likely be lounging on the couch mid Netflix binge, playing around on the internet, reading or writing.
- What is your favorite food?
Ahh, food, one of my favorite things in general. Growing up in the south, food was such a big part of everything. It is how we celebrate, mourn, and show love. If I have to pick one favorite, I’ll go with pizza.
- Do you have any pets?
I have a 9 year old Airedale terrier named Chloe who I am pretty sure is part human, and a 10 year old Scottish terrier named Lola who I am pretty sure is part cat.
- What beauty products can you not life without?
Dry shampoo and an eyebrow pencil. There is no way I am washing my hair every single day (although I used to before I discovered dry shampoo). As for the eyebrows, I have fine hair and I feel naked if I don’t pencil my eyebrows in a little.
- What is your favorite holiday?
Thanksgiving. Like I said, food is a big part of our lives, and the holidays are extra special for that reason. I love having everyone together and in recent years since my grandpa passed away, I have taken over the majority of the cooking duties.
- What do you miss in life right now?
Definitely being home in Louisiana. I never realized all the things that were unique to New Orleans until I moved away. Just go to Nola and have a REAL snowball (not this snow-cone crap) and you will totally get it. Along with Louisiana comes all the people in it. I miss my family and friends. I hate feeling like I’m missing out on important things in their lives, like seeing my best friends’ kids grow up.
- What is your favorite song?
I can’t really name a favorite but my Pandora is always on. My favorite stations right now are Audioslave, Led Zeppelin, and MGMT.
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
– I’d like to think I have a pretty good sense of humor.
– I’m outspoken (which could be good or bad depending on how you look at it, but hey, I tell it like it is).
– You could say I’m stoic. It takes a lot to hurt my feelings.
– I’m textbook type A, so lack of patience. Waiting 3 seconds for something feels like 3 minutes to me.
– I am the least spontaneous person I know. I can’t leave the house in the morning unless I know the plan for the rest of the day, and it makes my skin crawl when things don’t go according to plan.
– I can be stubborn. You have to really prove to me that something is worth changing my mind over.
– Some might say I can be callous. I just like to call it “not over emotional”.
- What are you looking forward to?
I am really looking forward to clinicals, but even more so, graduation! I am ready to have a job and start the next phase of my life. I know, I know . . . patience.
- What are you watching on TV lately?
The only presidential debate I care to hear about is on House of Cards. Kevin Spacey is an incredible actor! Honorable mentions go to Daredevil, Top Chef, and Workaholics.
- What is your biggest fear?
My biggest fear is not being able to have children. It is something I have looked forward to for so long but have put on hold to finish school. I think one of the most unfair things in life is that there are people who have children and don’t want them and there are people who would give anything to have a child of their own and can’t.
- What are 5 random facts about you?
I hate cucumbers.
I was awarded “student of the year” in 5th grade.
If I wasn’t going to be a PA I think I would like to go to culinary school.
I have a potty mouth.
I met my husband in 2009 and after dating a while we realized we had actually met each other as children.
That’s all for now. Up next I’m working on a post about my favorite books for PA school. Stay Tuned, and thanks for stopping by 🙂
