Hey friends! I was in my local Sephora the other day and the skin care consultant was telling me about a new service they offer. It’s a facial that exfoliates and hydrates the skin at the same time called the Fresh Start Facial powered by Perk. Of course you know I was like “Yes. I want this. Let’s do it now”. I am always looking for new products, routines, or tools to incorporate into my skincare routine. I am on the hunt for the unattainable “perfect skin” that I know doesn’t exist, but at least I can try! We can’t actually walk around with that pore-perfecting Snapchat filter on our face, so that’s why we have beauty products!
- The facial is free with a $75 skin care purchase. That may sound like a lot, but if you are serious about skin care products you will spend that eventually anyway!
- The whole process takes about 30 minutes.
- It is only being offered at select Sephora location at first. They hope to add more locations after seeing how well it does.
- Here in my little corner of Florida, you can find it at International Plaza in Tampa, Mall at Millenia in Orlando, and Boca Raton Town Center. Call your local Sephora to see if they offer it!
- You can choose from a face and lip combo, or a face and eye combo.
First the beauty consultant wet my face with a cotton round. Next came what they like to call in the beauty world a “double-cleanse”. Double-cleansing is a popular Korean beauty trick that has been trending for a while now. It basically means, you guessed it, washing your face twice. The first time with an oil based cleanser to loosen up the oil based dirt and makeup from your face. The second wash is with a foaming cleanser that washes the rest of the gunk and product away. The result? A super clean face that is just ready and waiting to soak up all of that good product you are about to apply. For the oil based cleanser she used Boscia Make-Up Break-Up Cool Cleansing Oil. The second was Tria Age-Defying Skincare Priming Cleanser.
Once my face was clean and patted dry it was ready for the facial “machine”. I don’t really know what to call this thing. It’s basically a suction apparatus that hooks up to pen-like containers holding the facial solution.
The pen containers have roller balls at one end that are rolled along your face. As the roller ball glides over your face, it releases the solution as it suctions the excess liquid away from your face (taking extra skin cells, dirt and gunk with it). The suction also promotes circulation in your face for healthy cell turnover. It is not painful, only sometimes very mildly uncomfortable, if you could even call it that.
They warned me that my face may become temporarily reddened in the process. My face actually didn’t really get red, but everyone’s skin is different. Also, make sure to let your consultant know if you are experiencing any discomfort! They can adjust the settings higher or lower based on your skin’s sensitivity. The facial is done in two phases. First the Nourishing Solution is applied, then the Antioxidant Renewal Serum is applied.
Once the face is done they will continue with the lip or eye treatment. The process is the same, with the lip and eye serums in the pen-like containers. The eye treatment is supposed to brighten, while the lip treatment is aimed at lip plumping. I opted for the eye treatment.
When the treatment was complete she showed me the container of sucked up solution. It was cloudy and gross with all my dead skin cells and dirt, which was cool because you know it’s working. The machine is then sanitized after each client.
After the treatment she used an SPF based moisturizer, Tarteguard 30 by Tarte. I wasn’t really crazy about this as a sunscreen or a moisturizer. I know any lotion with SPF in it tends to be oily, but this one made my face quite greasy looking. Not cute. Next she applied an anti aging serum, Golden Krocus Ageless Saffron Elixir Serum by Korres. Oohh this stuff was pretty. It comes in a fancy little gold bottle that matches it’s fancy name. The liquid inside is a shimmery translucent white and it smells heavenly. I’m a sucker for pretty things in pretty bottles, and this one made my eyes light up. Of course, I knew that meant it was probably pricey. Well . . . at $98 for 1.01 oz, I was not wrong. This serum promises to reduce all visible signs of aging. My under eye area was definitely smoother after applying.
That’s it! She made me a sample of the Korres Elixir to take with me. Gotta love Sephora’s free samples!
To meet my 75 dollars in skin care products, I picked up some new face wash and under eye cream. The face wash is called African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser from Ole Henriksen. I have been using it a few days now and I like it. It creates a nice foam and has a pleasant citrusy smell.
The eye cream was from Fresh called Black Tea Age-Delay Eye Concentrate. I tried a sample of this for the last month and felt it made my under eye area smoother and maybe even a little less wrinkly.
My vote is in. Call your local Sephora to see if they offer the Fresh Start Facial Powered by Perk! My skin felt and looked so much smoother afterward. The color was evened out almost like I had foundation on when I didn’t. I even noticed, dare I say, a reduction in fine lines around my eyes?! I think my skin was more hydrated therefore showing less creases. The picture below was taken once I got home. I was only wearing some mascara and eyebrow pencil. The next day I could tell my makeup went on smoother. I’m not saying miracles took place at Sephora that day, but I believe it is definitely worth checking out, especially if you are planning on stocking up on your beauty products soon. Do you not like free stuff??
Special thanks to Marquita at Sephora for taking the time to explain everything to me and doing such a gentle and thorough job! If you are in Tampa, go visit her!
